Foster50
The power of fostering extends far beyond providing temporary care – it’s a life-changing intervention that makes a world of difference for shelter pets. According to data from Maddie’s Fund, dogs who spend time in foster care are an astounding 14 times more likely to get adopted, even if they only experience a single foster sleepover.
That’s why the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County is thrilled to announce our participation in Foster50*, a groundbreaking national program designed to increase pet fostering throughout the country. Both dogs and cats who experience foster care prior to adoption also show decreased risk of return to the shelter. This suggests that foster experiences not only help pets find homes, but help them successfully transition to their new families.
During the Foster50 campaign, our team is actively working to strengthen the foster community in Pierce County. Our team held two Q&A sessions for registered foster parents, addressing barriers and concerns that might prevent people from taking on foster pets. Looking ahead, we’re excited to host Foster Fest on Monday, August 11, a special event designed to recruit new fosters and connect our community with the animals who need them most.
Summer is the perfect time to try fostering; you could start with kittens, dogs or even bunnies. Right now, our shelter is filled with amazing animals who could benefit tremendously from even a small break from the stress of the shelter. Whether you’re considering your first foster experience or you’re a seasoned volunteer looking to help again, your contribution – no matter how small – can change a life. Join us in the Foster50 movement and learn more about volunteering as a foster.
Together, we can create a future where every shelter pet has the chance to experience the love, comfort, and individual attention that only a foster home can provide. Because sometimes, all it takes is one hour, one night, or one weekend to change everything.
