As one of the newest members of the shelter’s staff, she is eager to leverage her expertise to advance the shelter’s mission.
Q. Tell us about your role at the shelter? What does a day in your life at the shelter look like?
A. In my role, I oversee the operations teams, including adoptions, animal receiving, and animal care. My daily tasks vary depending on the specific needs of each department. Essentially, I ensure that staff members have the necessary tools to care for the animals and serve the community. This involves providing training, managing supplies, and offering support to facilitate the smooth operation of daily activities.
Q. What inspired you to want to work at the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County?
A. I have spent the last 13 years honing my skills in various roles in the animal welfare field, cementing my passion for helping pets and the people who love them. I recently relocated to Tacoma, and when I saw a position open at the shelter that aligned with my professional experience, I had to apply! The shelter’s mission statement and Three-Year Strategic Plan really spoke to me, and I knew I wanted to be a part of the organization.
Q. What do you enjoy the most about working at the shelter?
A. I value the shelter’s forward-thinking approach. The team is committed to exploring innovative methods to enhance the well-being of the animals in our care and to support both pets and people in the community.
Q. Why are you so passionate about the work we do?
A. I get to be a part of an organization that is constantly evolving and implementing best practices, positioning itself as a leader in animal sheltering. It is impossible to not be passionate about the positive impact the organization has on the animals in our care and the community as a whole!
Q. Please include a special story that has stood out to you. This could be a particular animal in our care that stole your heart, helping a community member, etc.
A. The rabbit confiscation case is particularly memorable. Shelter staff worked closely with local animal control authorities to rescue 246 rabbits. This collaborative effort showcased our team’s dedication, resulting in positive outcomes for a large number of animals. After months of care, each rabbit has found a loving home!
