Hot Weather Tips

As our area experiences high temperatures and hot weather advisories, here are a few tips to help keep your pets safe in the heat:

Never leave your pet in a hot car

Don’t leave your pet in the car, even with the windows down. The temperature in the car can be significantly warmer than the outside temperature – even after just a few minutes.

Check for hot pavement

Check the pavement with the back of your hand. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for paws! Exercise your pets in the early morning hours when it is cooler outside. Try to reduce activities during midday when it is the hottest.

Hydration is key

Keep your pets hydrated! Make sure they have constant access to water and bring a water bottle with a travel bowl with you when you leave the house.

Know the signs of overheating

Monitor your pets for possible signs of overheating. Things like heavy panting, huffing, or mobility issues can be signs that you need to get your pet somewhere cool ASAP!
