100 Cats Happy in New Homes

On Oct. 2, 2024, 134 cats were removed from an abandoned apartment by Federal Way Animal Control and brought to our shelter for emergency care. Dozens were terrified from the trauma, infested with fleas, and suffering from upper respiratory infections. The sheer volume of this rescue stretched our already aging facility to its limits, so we turned to our community for emergency support.

Amazingly, nearly 60 foster families stepped up to provide these cats with quiet, comforting spaces to heal, while hundreds more contributed to their medical care and recovery. Thanks to you, these 134 cats received the love and attention they so desperately needed, giving them a second chance at the happiness they deserve. Here are a few heartwarming updates on some of the cats:

Alphie

“Alphie has really has blossomed in his new home. He has a couple of new friends, Wayland, who we adopted with Alphie, and Minerva, a cat we adopted about a year prior. He loves to give everyone baths and is definitely my cat, as he always wants to be held by me, near me, or play with me.”

Jiji

“Jiji is thriving. He’s a sweet wild baby and has brought tons of joy to our house with his rambunctious energy. He has become my shadow, and like all good shadows, he is attached at the feet. I think if we were to give him a middle name it would be ‘Tripping Hazard.'”

Shadowfax and Beowulf

“Shadowfax and Beowulf have been an absolute delight and settled in almost immediately. It only took a day for them to want to snuggle! They are incredibly sweet and silly boys. They love to play and they sleep by my head or feet most nights. I am so grateful that they have chosen to trust me to care for them.”

Salem

“Salem is doing awesome! She enjoys playing with her toys and loves looking out the windows. We have a frequent squirrel visitor who really makes her day. She instantly took to Sami, her matching brindle dog sister, and by the end of the first week, she learned how to play with her cat brother, Void. They are the best of friends now!”

Georgie

“Georgie is very happy being an only pet and has even gained some weight. She’s a whole 6.86 pounds now! She’s my first-ever cat and has brought so much happiness into my home.”

Mocha

“Mocha is doing great! She’s put some weight on and has been slowly growing into a social little butterfly. She LOVES doing morning meows and dancing between our feet when we first wake up to get extra pets. She’s a master at playing with bits of string and throwing them in the air for herself.”

Pearl

“Pearl is doing amazing! She was so shy at the shelter but once we got her home and settled in, her personality came out. She loves to play with all her toys and hang out in her cat tree. She loves to follow us all over the house and take naps with us. Thank you to everyone who helped rescue her and all those other cats from that awful situation they were in.”

Rocket

“Rocket has been doing great with his new brothers. He was a bit shy at first, but he has really opened up. He loves cuddling and running around with our other cat. Rocket is such a sweetheart and we really are trying to make his life happy with us.”

Whiskey and Tango

“Whiskey and Tango are doing fantastic! They enjoy lounging around and watching the hummingbirds from their perch. Tango likes to play hard-to-get but she loves the pets even more. Whiskey is a lazy boy and spends most of his time lying on the couch or grooming his sister. They are the perfect addition to our family and really make our house a home.”

Thatchwick Thimblewood

“Thatchwick’s rehabilitation is slow-going but steady and very rewarding. His hobbies include staring contests, box sitting, and burying his food in his pants. Thatchwick is a very polite boy and a treasure to have in our lives, and an especially good big brother.”

Gido

“Gido is doing so well. He and my mom are inseparable! Though small, Gido is the king of the apartment and has a dedicated couch all to himself. They are both homebodies and cuddle all the time.”

Jespa

“Jespa is doing great! She is an absolute treasure and we couldn’t have asked for a better companion.”

Olivia and Pumpkin

“Olivia and Pumpkin have been an absolute delight! Initially, they were understandably frightened and shy, but after about a week they began to feel comfortable and then soon became rambunctious and friendly young cats! It has been such a joy to have Olivia and Pumpkin join my family.”

Purriosa and Drax

“Purriosa purrs more than any cat we’ve ever known. She’s very independent and intelligent. She loves to hunt for her favorite toys…. Hairties! She loves the way we shoot them across the house, and they skitter across the floor as she baps them with her paws.

The first month for Drax was really hard. After a while, he was chasing after us and meowing to come out. We gradually exposed the two cats to each other, and around Thanksgiving, he was fully integrated in the house. They’re now good friends who snuggle up together in front of the fireplace and thunder around the house chasing each other.”

Eleanor Rose

“Eleanor Rose is loving and playful. She fits in so well with our family. She’s now a California girl living in Joshua Tree, living her best life.”

Leia

“Leia enjoys the new lifestyle and home she’s in. She adores her older sister cat, Nabi, and Nabi loves her! She can be a little sneaky trying to eat her sister’s food and digging in drawers, but I know she’s just being a kitty when she didn’t get the chance to be before.”

Oscar

“Oscar is full of life and loves to play with all his toys as well as just sit in the window sill and look outside at the birds and nature. He’s a spoiled boy and is getting lots of love and snuggles. We’re his “furever” home and so glad he found our family.”

Mitsi

“Mitsi is definitely happy and thriving. She was skinny when we adopted her weighing just under 4 pounds. She loves to play especially fetch and acts younger than her age. She loves her kitty condo and lying on the window seat where she can watch the birds outside. We love her and can’t imagine our lives without her in it.”

Bear

“I adopted my cat Bear just before Thanksgiving. He has taken some time to adjust to his new home, but is slowly becoming more comfortable in his surroundings. He is a sweet and affectionate cat and loves to curl up on my lap. Even though Bear is 7 years old, sometimes he seems like a kitten racing up the scratching post and chasing after cat toys.”

Bunker

“Bunker has been settling in wonderfully in our home. He so quickly became part of our family—curious, playful, and always on the hunt for his favorite toys. He plays endlessly with as many whiffle balls, batting them around the house like a little pro. We’re beyond grateful to have him and we appreciate all the love and care he received at the Humane Society before coming home with us.”

Smokey

“Smokey has been just so loveable and playful since coming home. The first night home he was very hesitant and would immediately hide under the bed if he came within my line of sight. But that first night, after the lights were off, he explored the house and has been great since then.”

Mimi

“Mimi has been the most wonderful addition to our family! When she’s not stirring up fun, she loves lounging in the sun by the window or curling up in her favorite cozy spot right in front of the heat registers. We are beyond grateful to have Mimi in our lives. She’s affectionate, playful, and has already carved out a special place in our home and hearts.”
