Education is essential to building a positive relationship between people and pets by encouraging compassion and respect for all living things. Our shelter’s Humane Education Program provides children with knowledge on how to treat animals, how to care for them, and how to communicate with them. This form of value-based education promotes sensitivity to all living beings and an appreciation of welfare issues for all animals.

Our Presentations

The shelter’s Humane Education Program offers in-person and virtual presentations for local classrooms and organizations! These presentations help inspire children to learn compassion and respect for animals.

The presentation covers an array of topics, including how to care for the family pet(s) and other helpful tips for animal safety. Our lessons are crafted through a social and emotional learning lens to help children identify how animals feel and deserve compassion.

We’ve built our educational model on the following principles: 

• To establish kindness for all living things
• Engage in social responsibility
• Stimulate interest and curiosity in animal rights and welfare

Our interactive presentation includes:

An introduction to the role the shelter plays within the community, the history of the shelter, and the importance of kindness and care for animals. The key takeaways include understanding the workings of the shelter and how to support animals in the community.

Our presentation keeps students engaged by guiding them through a variety of fun activities! We offer thinking exercises to help kids understand the responsibility of a pet and be able to put themselves in an animal’s “paws” to recognize the importance of respect and kindness towards animals.
