Meet the shelter’s Purchasing Coordinator, Cherelle Eleby! Cherelle makes sure the shelter has all the supplies and resources needed in order to care for around 10,000 animals every year.

Q. What does a day in your life at the shelter look like?

From purchasing supplies, hiring needed facility services, or processing donated items, I make sure the shelter has what it needs every day to help the many pets that come through our doors.

Q. What made you want to work at the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County?

I wanted to contribute to the well-being of pets that need it the most. Having the right supplies helps make lifesaving work possible!

Q. What’s your favorite part of working here?

One of my favorite parts is getting what our staff needs to help pets in need. Being able to help our staff get the tools, cleaning supplies, equipment, etc. that they need to help give a second chance to an animal is really great to be a part of.

Q. Why are you so passionate about the work we do?

I think we have a great mission – we provide so many second chances to animals that need it the most and find them loving homes.

Q. Any stories you’d like to share?

It’s been incredibly heartwarming to see all of the support that we’ve received from the community with the shelter’s recent intake of over 200 rabbits. We had over 300 donated items in just one day from the community! And the donated items are still coming in. It’s been great processing all of these donated items for staff to start using right away so that these rabbits can get the care they desperately need.
