End of Life Services

Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is one of the hardest decisions a family can face. Tacoma Humane offers humane euthanasia and cremation services with care, respect, and clear guidance about what to expect.

Before You Begin

Tacoma Humane’s end-of-life euthanasia service requires that the pet be signed over to the organization. Pet owners cannot remain present during the procedure.

We understand that this may not be the right experience for every family. If being present is important to you, contact a veterinary clinic or an in-home euthanasia provider.

Sunday through Thursday
11 a.m.–5 p.m.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an appointment?

Appointments are encouraged but not currently required. Calling or scheduling ahead may reduce uncertainty and help staff prepare.

Can I stay with my pet during euthanasia?

No. This service requires owners to sign their pet over to Tacoma Humane, and owners cannot be present during the procedure.

Can I bring family members?

Contact the team before your visit to ask what can be accommodated in the available space.

Will I receive my pet’s ashes?

Ashes are returned only with individual cremation. Group cremation does not include returned ashes.

How do I know when it is time?

A veterinarian who knows your pet’s medical history is the best person to help assess pain, quality of life, and treatment options. Tacoma Humane can provide the available service but cannot replace an ongoing veterinary relationship.

Can you come to my home?

Tacoma Humane does not currently provide in-home euthanasia through this service.
