Ways to Give
As a donor funded organization, we depend on our generous community to care for the pets and people of Pierce County. Explore ways you can support our mission below.
Every Way You Give
Becomes a Second Chance
Every year, more than 9,000 pets come through the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County, and every one of them is counting on people like you to get the care they need. As one of Washington’s largest shelters, we are here whenever an animal needs us, but it’s your generosity that makes that possible. When you give, you’re the one wrapping a frightened stray in a warm blanket, bringing a lost cat back to the family who’s been searching for her, and making sure a pet in crisis gets the lifesaving care they need. However you choose to give, you’re giving a pet a second chance. Explore the options below to find the way that feels right for you.
Tax Smart Giving
Your love for animals can go further than you might think. Many of our supporters have discovered that giving from assets beyond cash, like stock, retirement accounts, or even cryptocurrency, can be a savvy way to make a bigger difference while enjoying potential tax benefits.
Whether you’re recommending a grant from your Donor Advised Fund, making a qualified charitable distribution from your IRA (an especially good fit if you’re age 70½ or better), or donating appreciated stock or crypto, every gift helps pets in our care just as much as a cash donation. And it may help you, too.

Sponsor a Kennel
When a pet arrives at our Tacoma Humane, their kennel becomes their whole world—for a while.
As a kennel sponsor, you make that world a good one. You’re the reason there’s a full food bowl each morning and evening, a clean and cozy space to rest, and the medical care that helps a sick pet start to feel like themselves. Day after day, your kennel is where healing happens, until the moment its resident heads home with a new family.
As a year-long kennel sponsor, you’ll receive a personalized plaque that will hang on your kennel, seen by the 20,000 visitors that come through each year. You’ll also get quarterly email updates introducing you to the pets who’ve called your kennel home.
Dog Kennel: $1,000 | Cat Kennel: $500 | Rabbit Kennel: $250
After you submit payment, someone from our team will reach out personally to welcome you, answer any questions, and help you put the finishing touches on your plaque. At the end of your sponsorship term, you can take your plaque home or renew for another year of providing comfort and essentials for shelter pets.
Donate a Vehicle
Turn your old ride into a new beginning.
That car sitting in your driveway could help a pet find their way home. When you donate a vehicle through our partner program, its value goes straight to caring for the animals at the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County, and you get a hassle-free way to clear out some space.
Running or not, we’ll gladly take it: cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, RVs, campers, trailers, off-road vehicles, heavy equipment, farm machinery, and yes, even planes! If your vehicle isn’t running, it just needs to be in one piece, have an engine, and be reachable by a tow truck.

Your Gift, Well Cared For
We know that when you give, you’re trusting us with something meaningful, and we take that trust to heart. That’s why animal care always comes first in our budget. In 2025, 87% of our expenses went directly to programs for animals and the people who love them: medical treatment, safe shelter, nutritious food, and support services.
As an independent nonprofit organization serving Pierce County, we’re audited every year by an independent firm, guided by a volunteer Board of Directors, and recognized for our accountability by charity evaluators like Charity Navigator and Candid.
