Falling Head Over Paws – Valentine’s Day Adoption Event Success

Love was in the air during our Be My Valentine Adoption Event! From February 12-14, the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County offered $14 adoption fees for all pets to help play matchmaker for Valentine’s Day.
Over the course of three days, 75 pets became their new family’s furry valentine! There were 31 cats, 42 dogs, 1 rabbit, and 1 guinea pig that were adopted during the event. An additional 28 adoption holds were placed on pets who will go home with their new families once they are ready for adoption.
Among those 75 adopted pets, we wanted to share three special stories from the weekend:

Valentine first arrived to our shelter with itchy, irritated skin and hair loss. Our vet team worked to alleviate her itchiness and address whatever was causing these symptoms, and after a little over a week of treatment and monitoring, Valentine was cleared for adoption. On February 13th, she went home with her new family as the perfect way to celebrate Valentine’s Day! She is now named Sasha and has been settling in to her new home nicely.

Cameron Diaz was on the shy side here at the shelter, so it was harder for potential adopters to feel that instant connection with her to want to learn more. On the first day of the Be My Valentine Adoption Event, Cameron Diaz’s new family set their sights on giving this sweet, sensitive girl a chance.

Mama the bunny first arrived at our shelter in July. She spent time in a foster home during our Adoption Lobby Remodel project, along with her babies. During her time in the shelter, Mama was a frequent star of Read to a Rabbit events across Pierce County for kiddos of all ages and was always the best listener. After months of waiting, Mama found true love on Valentine’s Day and the final day of our adoption event!
We want to thank all of the folks that visited the shelter to find their furry valentines during our Be My Valentine Adoption Event. We also want to thank our staff and volunteers who helped spread the love during this event. Congratulations to all the pets and their new families for finding something special!
