You Made it Possible: Pearl’s Road to Recovery

Pearl intake

Upon intake, Pearl could not bear weight on her front right limb.

Pearl arrived at the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County, dragging her leg with every step. Our shelter staff immediately knew something was very wrong. X-rays revealed the 9-month-old kitten had endured a gunshot wound to her chest, damaging a nerve that immobilized her front right limb. At the time, the only path forward for Pearl was thought to be amputation.

Over the month that followed, this miracle kitty improved beyond our wildest expectations! Through expert vet treatment and a loving foster home, Pearl’s nerve damage slowly healed. She is now able to support her weight on her front limb! Our vets believe she will be able to walk without pain — with just a slight limp — and is no longer in need of an amputation.

In even better news, Pearl’s foster fell madly in love with her and decided to make Pearl a member of their family! Pearl and her family recently visited the shelter to bid farewell to the staff who cared for Pearl, finalize her adoption, and snap an adoption photo to celebrate!

After finalizing Pearl’s adoption, her new family marked the occasion by capturing an adoption photo.

We are so grateful for the compassion and generosity of our supporters who made Pearl’s healing journey possible.

Thanks to donors like you, the funds raised for Pearl were also applied to cats like Newman and Topaz, two cats with terrible injuries to their legs. Newman and Topaz both received amputation surgeries this week and are on the road to recovery.
