A lot has changed since we first opened our doors in 1888. Our community has grown. The needs of pets and people have changed. And the way Tacoma Humane serves Pierce County has expanded far beyond what many people first knew us for.
What hasn’t changed is why we’re here.
From our new colors, to our new logo – each piece is a nod to the place we call home here in Pierce County, as well as the homes we help find for animals deserving of second chances. Just like for them, this is an exciting new beginning for us!

The Tagline: Explained
Our new tagline is simply why we do what we do – we’re here for the pets, we’re here for the people who love them, and we’re here for Pierce County.
We’re still the same organization supporting the pets and people of Pierce County, now with visuals that help us fully illustrate the story, depth and breadth of our work. We are more than a shelter and more than adoptions. For almost 140 years, we have been our community’s trusted pet resource center.
Because this is our first major brand update in nearly 30 years, you’ll see the transition happen gradually. Some materials will change right away, while others will roll out over time as we thoughtfully update signage, print materials, and other touchpoints.
This new look is about this community, our home, and about making this a place where everyone feels welcomed. We want to thank you for being the inspiration behind all we do, and we hope you will celebrate this new era alongside us! And thank you for being part of what Tacoma Humane has always been—and what it continues to become.
