Community Rallies for Over 130 Cats in Crisis

A shelter Kennel Aide offers care and comfort to one of the 130+ cats rescued from an unsafe, vacated apartment in Federal Way and brought to the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County.

On October 3, we shared the story of over 100 cats rescued from a single apartment in Federal Way. Over the following days, our dedicated Federal Way Animal Control partners worked tirelessly to capture and transport the cats to our shelter, where they received the urgent care they desperately needed.

Now, just two weeks later, that number has grown to over 130 cats from this single residence.

Thanks to our community’s generosity, 75 of these cats are currently in loving foster homes, receiving the care and affection they deserve as they await their spay and neuter surgeries. The remainder still in the shelter are getting lots of love from staff and volunteers until they find their new homes. Some of the 130 have already been adopted into loving families!

We are incredibly grateful to our community for your outpouring of support. Thank you to everyone who donated to help us manage this urgent influx of pets, to our wonderful foster families for giving so many of these cats a safe place to stay, to our amazing volunteers for their time and hard work, and to our dedicated staff who have been working tirelessly to provide the best possible care for these cats.

The journey for these cats is far from over, and your continued support remains vital. Together, we are changing lives—one cat at a time.

Out of the 130+ rescued cats, 75 have been placed in loving foster homes.
