You Made it Possible: Salmon Poisoning Dogs

Something Smells Fishy: The Dangers of Salmon Poisoning  1

When Brick and Rogue arrived at our shelter in March with symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy, our expert veterinary team knew these dogs needed a full work-up to address their discomfort.

The dogs both tested positive for hookworms and ringworms, but the vet team suspected something else was going on. A more detailed test revealed both dogs had contracted salmon poisoning disease, a startling diagnosis considering the condition is 90% fatal to dogs if left untreated.

With the support of compassionate donors like you, Rogue and Brick received specialized care to diagnose and address this rare but deadly condition.

Their bodies shook with chills and their stomachs hurt so bad that they couldn’t bear to eat. The sweet puppies were very sick and unfortunately tested positive for parvovirus. Parvo can be deadly to young dogs, but thanks to your support, our vet team immediately began intense medical treatment to save their lives.
After immediately administering round-the-clock antibiotics, anti-parasitic medications, and fluids, our vet team breathed a sigh of relief when the dogs started improving. With the right treatment plan in place, the two dogs’ gastrointestinal discomforts subsided, and they began gaining weight and exhibiting more energy.

Your generous contribution allows our vet team the capacity to find the best course of action to cure dogs like Rogue and Brick. And because of you, Rogue and Brick are now thriving in loving homes, where they receive the attention and affection they deserve.

Rogue, now named Ty, loves playing in his big back yard with two new dog siblings. And Brick, now Leo, enjoys playing fetch in his grandma’s backyard and spending time at doggy day care, where he’s making new friends.

Thank you to our caring community of donors for being a hero for the thousands of pets who come into our care every year! Your generosity makes a significant impact. If saving dogs like Brick and Rogue is important to you, please consider donation to our shelter today.
