surrendering your pet

The Humane Society accepts pets from residents of Pierce County and the City of Federal Way. Priority is always given to pets from these areas, if you and your pet are from an area served by another shelter we encourage you to utilize their services as we may not be able to accommodate your pet.

Before you decide to relinquish your pet to the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County for behavioral reasons, please read through the helpful Pet Behavior Tips. If you are surrendering your animal because of a medical condition or injury you are not able to afford care for, please let us know as we may be able to assist you with these costs. If you have no other choice than to bring your pet to the Humane Society, please be aware that we do everything possible to find your pet a home, but we cannot guarantee adoption for any pet.

Our goal is to find a loving home for every healthy, adoptable pet. We can achieve this by knowing more about the animals that come into our care.
