Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County
Compassion for people and animals
The mission of the Humane Society is to advance the welfare of animals and promote positive relationships between animals and people.
Vision
The Humane Society envisions a community where every pet has a permanent and loving home and all animals are treated with respect and compassion.
Our Story
Founded in 1888 by a handful of concerned citizens, the Tacoma Humane Society has grown into the state's largest animal welfare agency. We find loving homes for more than 6,000 pets a year, reunite thousands of lost pets with their owners, provide medical care for ill and injured shelter pets, and offer comprehensive low-cost spay-neuter programs.
The Tacoma Humane Society is striving to create a compassionate community where no pet is euthanized for lack of a home. Since 2008, we been able to find loving homes for every adoptable dog we receive, and have drastically reduced the number of adoptable cats euthanized. We are committed to reaching "zero euthanasia of adoptable pets" through spay/neuter, adoption, and foster programs. We invite you to support our mission through volunteering, donating, adopting, and advocating for the welfare of pets in our community.
