Introducing Camp Kindness for Kids - PR
An Animal-Centered Summer Day Camp
The Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County will host a summer day camp for kids the week of August 7-11, 2006, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily at the Gonyea Boys & Girls Club, 5136 North 26th St. in Tacoma, Washington.
Camp Kindness is open to children ages 10-12, and will include educational games, animal explorations, crafts, guest speakers, workshops, and lots of fun activities with animals! The camp is made possible through a partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound, Pierce County Extension 4-H Youth Development, and Pierce County Public Works & Utilities Water Programs. Aftercare at Gonyea is available for an additional fee for parents who will not be able to pick their child up promptly at 3:00 p.m.
This is Pierce County’s first companion animal-centered, week-long day camp, with a segment on human/pet/wildlife interactions. Kids can expect plenty of guest visits by animals, and animal experts! Certified adult chaperones will be present at all times, along with Pierce County 4-H - trained camp counselors. Camp participants will be guided through daily journaling exercises integrating each day’s adventures and activities, and enriching the whole camp experience. Topics will include animal homes, working animals, pet rescue and adoption, raising a pet, training and animal behavior. The fee is $220 (just $44 per day), and includes educational materials, lunches and a daily morning snack.
Scholarships for enrollment assistance may be available to qualified families based on income level. Enrollment is limited to the first 15 applicants, so interested parents submit an application for enrollment as early as possible.
